Choking Game - A "game" played by teens & pre-teens in which kids attempt to "get high" cutting off their air supply.  AKA, Tingling, Black Out, Suffocation Roullette, California High, Rising Sun, Gasp, Funky Chicken, Airplaning, American Dream, Space Monkey, Flatliner, Space Cowboy 
 
Skittling - Nickname for abuse of Coricidin Cough medicine.  Known for this because of similar appearance to the candy Skittles
 
K-Hole - State of intoxication from Ketamine use.  Described as being similar to a near death experience, with the sensation of rising above one's body, inner peace, and radiant light.
 
Dusting - Nickname for abuse of inhaling or "huffing" cans of compressed air or Dust Off directly from the can.
 
Itching - Nickname for DXM & DMT abuse, due to myalgia and loss of tactile sensation.
 
Huffing - Nickname for abuse of inhaling Chemical vapors, ie.; solvents, aerosols, gases, nitrites.
 
R-Ball - Nickname for abuse of Ritalin.
 
Cutting - Nickname for act of Self-mutilation by cutting one's self.
 
Slashing -  Nickname for act of Self-mutilation by cutting one's self.
 
Poppers - Nickname for Inhalant abuse of amyl nitrite abuse.
 
Self Mutilation- Injury of disfigurement of oneself in hopes to dissociate, feel arousal, relief, comfort, or high from naturally occuring endorphins.
 
Dissosciation - Act of withdrawing, detaching from their bodies, environment, and behavior.
 
Endorphins - Naturally occurring opirate (similar to heroin) produced in the body.
 
Snorting - Nickname for abuse of inhaling Chemical vapors, ie.; solvents, aerosols, gases, nitrites.
 
SSD - Sudden Sniffing Death.  Death caused by intentionally inhaling chemical vapors.  Death comes from irregular heart rhythm, leading to heart failure.
 
Cyanosis - Bluish tinge to skin caused by lack of oxygen.
 
Petechial Hemorrhage - A petechial hemorrhage is a tiny pinpoint red mark that is an important sign of asphyxia caused by some external means of obstructing the airways. They are sometimes also called petechiae. Their presence often indicates a death by manual strangulation, hanging, or smothering. The hemorrhages occur when blood leaks from the tiny capillaries in the eyes, which can rupture due to increased pressure on the veins in the head when the airways are obstructed.

Upper Moreland Twp. Police Officer Scott Metheny - Officer Metheny is the prime mover and first author of "The Choking Game" Prevention Power Point.  Officer Metheny has been a great mentor and friend to me and is a fantastic authority about this subject.
 
Risky Teen Behaviors - Term I use to describe activities performed by Teens and Pre-Teens to get high. These activites are often not included in D.A.R.E. or normal school drug prevention curriculum.
 
EMS - Emergency Medical Services.  Public Safety Service provided by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) & Paramedics in which these professionals provide emergency medical care prior to arrival at a hospital.
